Miss Christine with Jermaine Kelly and Olivia Neid

  • New City Brewery 180 Pleasant Street Rear Studio 12 Easthampton, MA, 01027 United States (map)

Miss Christine, the moniker of bassist and singer-songwriter Christine Moad, blends indie rock with blues and soul influences, delivered with a defiant punk attitude to open listeners’ minds to possibilities beyond the gender binary. Their message of radical self-expression manifests in songs that are both intensely personal and challenging of the harmful stereotypes and expectations associated with gender and sexuality. Even the name Miss Christine turns the gender binary on its head. The “Miss” has nothing to do with womanhood and everything to do with absence and longing. In this case, it’s the longing for truth and freedom from misguided external perceptions.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Christine toured internationally as a professional bassist and worked as a session player in Nashville before moving to a farm near Iowa City where they wrote and recorded their first two albums. It was there they founded Band-Camp, an annual two-day celebration of queer music, empowerment, and resistance solely advertised by word-of-mouth.

Since moving to Cambridge, MA in 2023, Miss Christine has extensively toured Midwest and New England Pride Festivals, and cultivated a strong community of queer and trans allyship across the United States, becoming sought-after for their jubilant performances and their engaging and informative Empowering Identities: A Genderqueer and Asexual Music Experience presentation.

Olivia Nied (she/they) is a queer/trans singer/songwriter, who's music is genre defying, and buoyed by a steady current of radical joy and explosive guitar work. Her music reflects her lived experiences as a neuroqueer weirdo (in the best of ways) and as a self described "hysterical dame", and she has shared the stage alongside artists such as Loudon Wainwright III, Niki Luparelli, and Doctora Xingona. Her 2024 album release "Just Enough" has been featured on queer playlists in The Netherlands, and she has performed internationally in both the UK and France. When not performing solo, she plays drums in local surf/punk band "SexWave" and bass in the riot girl punk band "Sunshine and the Rainbows." Her music has been featured in both film and modern dance.
